Schools have changed dramatically over the last 14 years, with many school support staff taking on more responsibilities. 

In this wide-ranging feature, we introduce the school support staff team – the many diverse roles that are key to keeping schools running. As Pam Howard, chair of UNISON’s schools committee says: “Without school support staff, schools would collapse.”

We also consider how the new School Support Staff Negotiating Body (SSSNB), which is being introduced as part of the Employment Rights Bill, is a genuine opportunity to make sure all school staff are treated fairly and equally.
